| Stretching
upward from the beautiful Unaka Valley in Unicoi County, Tennessee and
across the Bald Mountains into Greene County, is a land of ancient
tumbling streams, deep green forests, and a living wild equaled
perhaps only in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. That land is
the extraordinary ten thousand-acre Rocky Fork Watershed - and it is
in immediate danger of being destroyed by yet another sprawling gated development.
Urgently needed is your citizen support for an alliance of conservation partners and agencies which have united to preserve Rocky Fork, now known to be the largest and most ecologically important unprotected wild area in the southern Appalachian Mountains.
We urgently ask that you take these 3 simple steps to assist in this critical effort:
Step 1.) Click to download the Rocky Fork Slide Show and learn more about this magnificent area and its impending demise. Step 2.) Click to see Why You Should Care and read about the most important aspects of the threat to Rocky Fork, and for talking points for your letter to officials and the media. Step 3.) VERY IMPORTANT! Using the information provided, please write a concise letter of your own to the officials listed below. Urge them to work with the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy to facilitate a public/private conservation purchase of the Rocky Fork tract, and to pursue the ultimate goal of creating Rocky Fork National Recreation Area. The best way for you to help is to send your letter to each official directly through the email addresses and contact links listed below or send to mail@saverockyfork.org and we will promptly forward it for you. (remember also that traditional mail and phone calls remain highly effective when expressing concerns to elected officials).
